North Cornwall Coast Primary Care Network (PCN) and its practices Port Isaac Surgery, Bottreaux Surgery and Wadebridge & Camel Estuary Practice have supported the delivery of the first and second dose COVID vaccinations at the GP-led Bodmin Treatment Centre, this was extremely successful and helped vaccinate a large proportion of patients in our communities.
The government has now announced that a vaccination for the third does COVID booster vaccination will be made available, the list of those eligible and in what order can be found here. The primary care network (PCN) practices have already planned and are starting to deliver their flu clinics which have expanded access again this year, at a time where practices are experiencing increased demand on their services whilst supporting hospitals to manage patients waiting for treatment. Planning continues to prepare for what is expected to be a busy winter period.
The current plans for the local third dose COVID booster vaccination programme are:
Port Isaac Surgery and Wadebridge & Camel Estuary Practice will be providing COVID booster vaccinations to care home residents and staff. All other patients will be invited to book an appointment at the large-scale vaccination centre at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge.
Bottreaux Surgery will be providing local capacity for COVID booster vaccines aimed at their patients in cohort 1 to 9 (see the patient cohorts on the Gov.UK website) at their site in Tintagel Medical Centre. Some surgery patients will be offered an appointment at the large scale vaccination centre at the Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge based on available appointments.
Practices are working with the local voluntary sector to ensure support for people who are unable to make transport arrangements to their local vaccination site.
What do patients need to do?
COVID booster vaccines will be offered in the same way as phase one of the vaccine roll out earlier in the year by the priority groups 1-9 – people can only have their booster jab at the earliest, 6 months after they had their second dose.
Please note that you do not need to contact the practices about your vaccination, you will receive an invitation to book your appointment through the national booking system online or via 119. As the vaccine becomes available eligible patients will be contacted and asked to book their appointment within the national priority list.
Plans are underway to vaccinate all care home residents by the end of November Both care home and general practice staff will also be vaccinated to ensure they can continue to provide services to our patients.
